STEPHEN F. CHOMOS, age 83, of Williamsfield,Ohio, died Tuesday, December 26, 2006 at his daughter's home in Ford City, PA. He was born October 9, 1923, in Seminole, Pennsylvania, to Andrew and Mary (Cherico) Chomos. Mr. Chomos was a 1942 graduate of Brookfield High School. Formerly of Masury, Mr. Chomos was a resident of Williamsfield since 1975. He served as a police officer in Brookfield and as police chief in Orwell for 24 years combined. While serving as a police officer he was employed by General American Transportation Corp. of Masury, Ohio for over 30 years retiring in 1972. Mr. Chomos served in the Army's Company A, 1st Battalion, 179 Infantry Regiment, 45th division, during World War II where he was a prisoner of war in Germany for fifteen months. Mr. Chomos was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Kinsman; a life member of the VFW Post 8860, Masury; a life member of the D.A.V. Glenn Ross Post 39, Ashtabula; and a life member of the national Ex-POW group. Mr. Chomos married Magdalene Kraynak on July 16, 1945, and was preceded in death by her on June 17, 2000. He is also preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Julia Toth and Mary Kish; and four brothers, Andrew, Frank, William and John Chomos and great granddaughter Angel Elizabeth Bellew. Survivors include three daughters, Christine M. (John) Bellew of Summerville, South Carolina, Roseann (Mark) Armstrong of Ford City, Pennsylvania, and Stephanie F. Chomos of Summerville, South Carolina; 7 Grandchildren; and 7 Great Grandchildren. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, State Route 87, Kinsman,Ohio, with Rev. Kevin McCaffrey officiating. Burial will take place in Williamsfield Center Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Friday, December 29th from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. and from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 8569 Main St., Kinsman,Ohio.
