Steve Phillips

Johnston, Ohio - Steve Phillips Jr., age 87 of Johnston, Ohio, died on Friday, August 4, 2006 at his residence with his loving family by his side. He was born on June 18, 1919 in West Farmington, Ohio, to Steve Phillips Sr. and Lena (Miklos) Phillips. Mr. Phillips was a 1938 graduate of Johnston high school. A Johnston resident for the past thirty three years, Mr. Phillips formerly owned and operated a dairy farm on Davis Peck Road in Gustavus for over thirty three years. He was also employed as an electrician for the former Mullins Manufacturing Company of Warren for over seventeen years. Mr. Phillips was a machine operator for the former Wean Manufacturing Company of Warren and worked for the Village of Cortland for many years doing highway maintenance. He attended the Bazetta Christian Church. Mr. Phillips enjoyed traveling, gardening, spending time with his family and helping his son Bob farm. Nearly celebrating a wedding anniversary of sixty six years, he married Margaret V. Cece on August 24, 1940. Mr. Phillips is preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Greg S. Phillips; a granddaughter, Debra L. Phillips; an infant brother James; and a brother James Phillips. Survivors include his wife Margaret of Johnston; three sons, Robert S. (Sandy) Phillips, Ron D. (Lorraine) Phillips both of Gustavus, Gary L. (Nancy) Phillips of Jefferson; a daughter, Shirley J. (Bob) Gorse of Cortland; seven grandchildren, Brian Phillips, Lori Morgan, Courtney Leininger, Mike Phillips, Shannon Markley, Jeff Phillips and Steve Phillips; five great-grandchildren, Greg Phillips, Seth and Brooke Morgan, Donovan and Ava Leininger; and a brother George (Genny) Phillips of Cortland. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 8, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 8569 Main Street, Kinsman, Ohio with the Rev. Meredith D. Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in Johnston Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 7, 2006 from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M.
