Terrence L. "Terry" Downing

Terrence L. "Terry" Downing, age 64, passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2018, at his home in Kinsman, OH, after a 9 month battle with stomach cancer. Terry was born September 6, 1954, in Warren,Ohio, to William and Mariam (Ellis) Downing, and grew up in Cortland, OH. He graduated from Lakeview High School in 1972; and later attended ATES Technical School and obtained an Associate's Degree in Electrical/Electronic Technology. He was a maintenance electrician by trade, and worked in various doomed industries in the area. His employment was often the kiss of death to companies that hired him, including RG Steel and Delphi. Most recently, he was employed at Masco Cabinetry in Orwell. Terry married Barbara J. (Miller) in 1987. Together they raised Shane (Katy) and Lara, imparting their shared love of reading, science, and nature. He said he was most proud of having raised his children to be free thinkers. He showed his love daily by constantly worrying, by his deep belly laugh, and by repairing everything that his family broke. He was adored by his 3 surviving sisters, Diana (Frank), Debbie (Mark), and Denise, as well as his brother and best friend, Bill (Barb) who preceded him in death. Terry is also survived by his brother-in-law, Paul (Jan) Miller, and sister-in-law, Emily Miller, and many nieces and nephews. He valued the role of uncle as much as the role of father, sharing his wisdom with his much loved nieces and nephews and giving them advice on books, music, electronics, and talking down car salesmen. Terry is also preceded in death by his parents; and a niece, Jennifer Martin. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 8569 Main St., Kinsman, OH. Calling hours will be on Saturday from 12:00 Noon until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kinsman Public Library, PO Box 166, Kinsman,OH 44428.
