Thomas I. Keeler, Sr., 91, passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at his home from liposarcoma cancer. He was born October 29, 1924, in Johnston, OH, the son of Reid and Kathryn (Goldstrom) Keeler. A 1942 graduate of Johnston High School, Tom served his country in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper in the Pacific during World War II. Upon returning from service he attended Kent State University where he met his wife, Shirley Bingham. They were married December 4, 1948 in the Kent Presbyterian Church, and returned to Kinsman where they have been residents since. Tom and Shirley owned and operated the Kinsman Isaly Dairy Store for six years. He began working for the Erie Register Corp in a local office in Andover; and stayed in construction management for eighteen years until he retired to work his farm in Gustavus, Ohio. Tom returned to work for Farm Credit Services for several years before retiring from there in 1989. He was a member of the Kinsman United Methodist Church; and a former member of the Harry Lees Post #506 American Legion in Kinsman. Tom enjoyed bowling, golfing, and watching sports and western movies on television. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Shirley (Bingham) Keeler, of Kinsman; four daughters, Barbara (Ronald) Piper of Kinsman, OH, Diane (Don) Schmidt of Greenville, PA, Kathryn (Pat) Erickson of Kinsman, OH, and Judith (Rob) Peters of Burghill, OH; two sons, Thomas Keeler, Jr. of Kinsman, OH, and David (Jan) Keeler of Missouri; 17 Grandchildren; and 23 Great Grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; four sisters; and two brothers. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2016, at 5:00 PM at the Kinsman United Methodist Church, 8362 Main St., Kinsman, OH. Calling hours will be on Saturday from 3:00 PM until the time of service at the church. A private interment of cremated remains will take place later in Gustavus Cemetery.
