At 80 years of age, Viola Tauche, of Dodgeville Rd., New Lyme, Ohio, passed away November 19, 2007, at her home after a lengthy illness. Born September 2, 1927 in Cleveland, Ohio, daughter of Chester and Helen (Malecki) Piontkowski, Viola was one of eight children. Viola married her sweetheart, Karl, November 28,1950, at St. Mary's Church in Orwell, Ohio. The wedding was delayed due to the Snow Storm of the Century. They were married on Tuesday rather than Saturday as originally planned. She is survived by her husband, Karl Tauche, Sr. of New Lyme, Ohio; and was the mother of Karl B. (Carolyn) Tauche, Jr. of Columbus, Ohio, and Kenneth B. Tauche of Warren, Ohio. She has five grandchildren who have wonderful memories of her; Brian Tauche of Fowler, Ohio, Travis Tauche of Mentor, Ohio, Bruce (Alicia Steen) Tauche of New Lyme, Ohio, the sons of Kenneth B. Tauche; Gaven Jones of Columbus, Ohio and Julie Jones of Tempe, Arizona, the children of Karl B. Tauche, Jr. She was great grandmother to Kyra Beach and Mallory Barnette. Karl and Viola, after marrying, settled in New Lyme and resided initially in Karl's parent's home, until 1968 when it burned and they built a house of their own at the same location. During her life Viola was active in the Catholic Church. While at St. Mary's Church she once baked 40 pies for the Church Festival. At Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Andover, Ohio, she taught C.C.D. classes for many years. She also was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, the Mission Society, and the Youngstown Cursillo Movement. She loved to read, but also enjoyed the Food Network and the Home and Garden Channel. Viola was an excellent cook and also canned fruits and vegetables from the garden for many years including apple butter, bread and butter pickles, spaghetti sauces, and peaches. She was an excellent baker, as well. Many brides in her family and in the community had one of Viola's creations at their weddings. Family festivities always included plates of her cheesecake. And Easter had trays of nut rolls, poppy seed rolls, and hot cross buns for enjoyment. Viola retired from Chardon Rubber Company, a division of Ball Corporation, after 31 years of service. Her retirement years included travel with her husband and grandchildren seeing many sites in the United States and Italy. She especially loved her trips to Hawaii and Rome, Italy. In Rome, she attended a Mass where the Pope presided. Viola and Karl had an "open door" policy at their home. Any person in a difficult situation was welcome to stay with them, and many did. They were always quick to lend a helping hand. Many in the community knew her as "Grandma Tauche". Surviving her also are her two sisters, Jeannette "Jean" Hollis of Andover, Ohio, Angela (Jerry) Burrell of Plano, Texas; and two brothers, Raymond (Judy) Piontkowski of Johnston, Ohio, and Paul (Sue) Piontkowski of Twinsburg, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Eugene Piontkowski, Carl Piontkowski, and Chester L. Piontkowski. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church with Father Kevin McCaffrey officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Andover. Calling hours are on Friday, November 23rd from 4 to 8 P.M. at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 134 Prospect St., Andover, Ohio. A Bible Vigil will be held at 8 P.M. on Friday, November 23rd. Memorial contributions may be made in Viola's name to Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, P.O. Box 669, Andover, OH 44003.
