Virgil R. Houser,

Virgil R. Houser, Sr., 89 yrs old, of Gustavus, Ohio, died on Thursday, January 15, 2004, at his residence. Mr. Houser was born in Portland, IN, on March 5, 1914, to the late Amos Houser and the late Zertha (Loyer) Houser. A lifelong resident of Gustavus, Mr. Houser graduated from Gustavus High School in 1933. Farming from a young age, Mr. Houser was the owner and operator of Houser Farms. A dairy and grain farmer, he performed custom silo filling for many area farmers over the years. Mr. Houser also worked for Republic Steel as a machinist for over 39 years, retiring in 1980. He married Maxine J. White on September 6, 1939. Mr. Houser was a member of the Gustavus Federated Church and the Trumbull County Farm Bureau. He is preceded in death by his parents, a grandson Jeffrey R. Hartman, a great grandson, Derik Overly, Jr., and a son-in-law, Philip J. Engler. He is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Maxine J. Houser of Gustavus, Ohio; his daughter, Gloria H. Engler of Leavittsburg, Ohio; his son, Garry R. (Pat) Houser of Gustavus, Ohio; his daughter, Janice L. Houser of Cortland, Ohio; his son, Dennis R. Houser of Gustavus, Ohio; his daughter, Darlene K. (Robert) Swick of Johnston, Ohio; his son, Virgil R. (Janet) Houser Jr. of Gustavus, Ohio; his brother, John L. Houser of North Lima, Ohio; his brother, Gale W. Houser of Austintown, Ohio; fourteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 19, 2004, at 11:00am at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 8569 Main Street, Kinsman, OH, with Reverend Steven W. Trimble officiating. Burial will follow in Gustavus Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Sunday, January 18, 2004, at the funeral home from 2-5pm.
