Virgil L. Rathburn

Virgil L. Rathburn, age 80, of Mecca township, OH, died Thursday, September 22, 2016, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren,OH. He was born November 25, 1935, in Kinsman, OH, a son of Brice M. and Edna L. (Moore) Rathburn. Formerly of Johnston township, Mr. Rathburn had been a long time resident of Mecca and was a veteran having served in the U.S. Air Force. He was employed as a milk hauler; and he owned and operated a dairy and grain farm for many years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Andover and the Moose Lodge in Mecca. His hobbies included fishing with trips to Canada, and hunting in earlier years. Mr. Rathburn married Peggy Joanne (Byerly) Rathburn on July 26, 1960, and she preceded him in death in 2008. He is also preceded by his parents; a daughter, Valerie Rathburn;one sister, Hazel Smith; and two brothers, Wayne and Martin Rathburn. He is survived by two sons, Dave Rathburn of Cortland, OH, and Darrell (Debbie) Rathburn of Mecca township, OH; four grandchildren, Ashley Hyde, Mathew Rathburn, Brice Rathburn, and Anthony Rathburn; and three great grandchildren, Kaycee Hyde, Hunter Rathburn, and Chase Rathburn. A private graveside service for burial of cremated remains will take place later in Johnston Cemetery.
