Gustavus, Ohio â�" Willard S. â�œBillâ₝ Muir, age 84, died peacefully on Friday, March 09, 2007 surrounded by his family. He was born on September 7, 1922 in Gustavus, Ohio to Donald N. and Margret Thomas Staley Muir. A lifelong resident of Gustavus, Mr. Muir was a 1940 graduate of Gustavus High School. Mr. Muir served in the United States Army during World War II as a sergeant in the 6th Division 1st Infantry, in the Pacific Theater. He was awarded a bronze star as well as the Philippine Liberation Medal. Mr. Muir owned and operated a dairy and beef farm as well as working for Halsey-Taylor Company of Warren. He was a member of the Kinsman United Methodist Church where he assisted with their chicken and biscuit dinners. He was a member of the Gustavus Burdette Totten VFW Post and the Harry Lees Kinsman American Legion Post 506. Mr. Muir was also a member of the Trumbull County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed gardening, playing his harmonica, watching western shows and has a collection of John Wayne memorabilia. Mr. Muir had a love for animals and enjoyed farming. He is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Linda M. Muir; two brothers, Allen and Donald Muir and a sister Lillie Belle Muir. Survivors include his wife of fifty-eight years Juanita Belle Carter, whom he married on September 17, 1948. He is also survived by three daughters, Cheryl M. (Alan) Thompson of North Lima, Ohio, Patricia M. (Wayne) Rodgers of Hartford, Ohio, and Joan R. McElhinny of Greenville, Pennsylvania; a brother, Edward (Lana) Muir of Farmdale, Ohio; two sisters, June Johnson of Kinsman, and Mary Hott of Fort Myers, Florida; eight grandchildren, Jarred Mitchell, Julie and Janie McElhinny, Brian and Tommy (Gina) Titus, Trisha (Todd) Irons, Andrea Rodgers and Ciera Mitchell Rodgers and many great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 12, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at Baumgardner Funeral Home 8569 Main Street, Kinsman, Ohio with Rev. Marian Glass officiating. Burial will follow in Gustavus Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, March 11th from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
