William C. Groff, 82 years old, of Andover, Ohio, died on Monday, March 1, 2004, at UPMC Horizon Hospital in Greenville, PA. William was born on April 3, 1921, in Rome, NY, to the late Stewart Groff and the late Irene (Smith) Groff. Formerly of Rome, New York, Mr. Groff was an Andover resident since 1994. He was a 1939 graduate of Rome Free Academy and served in the U.S. Marines during World War II in the South Pacific Theatre. Mr. Groff was a maintenance foreman for Rome Cable Corporation in New York for 34 years, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Rome, NY, and the Roman-Hathaway Lodge #223 and BPOE #96 in Rome. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and do-it-yourself projects. Mr. Groff married Harriett (Stanley) on January 13, 1945. She died on December 11, 2003. Also preceding him in death are his parents; one sister, Eleanor Hall; and three brothers, Glenn, John S., and Arthur Richard Groff. He is survived by his son, William J. Groff of Andover, OH; his granddaughter, Jennifer Seyler, his granddaughter, Kelley Groff; his grandson, Timothy Groff; four great grandchildren; his siter, Margaret Cmaylo of Verona, NY; and his sister, Marilyn Lewis of Rome, NY. Burial of cremated remains will be in Rome City Cemetery, Rome, NY. No services will be held. Arrangements were handled by Baumgardner Funeral Home, 134 Prospect St., Andover, Ohio.
