Kinsman, Ohio - William John Mitchell, Sr., age 81, died on Sunday, January 6, 2013. He was born on January 7, 1931 in Sharon, Pennsylvania, a son of Thelma Leona (Moore) and John Glascow Mitchell. Formerly of Maysville, Pennsylvania, Mr. Mitchell was a Kinsman resident since 1965. On January 30, 1949 he married Arlene Louise Sweitzer. He was a Mill Wright for National Casting of Sharon, Pennsylvania for twenty-eight years and after his retirement he did maintenance for the Eastwood Mall for eight years. Mr. Mitchell was formerly a member of the Kinsman Presbyterian Church, a member of the Steel Workers Union and the Maenerchor Club of Sharon. He enjoyed farming from the time he was young, raising animals and growing grain. Spending time with his children and grandchildren, in his garden or maintaining his lawn is where he wanted to be. He is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Delores Mitchell; a brother, David Mitchell. Survivors include his wife of almost sixty-four years, Arlene L. Mitchell; three daughters, Virginia "Ginny" DeArment of Brookfield, Ohio, Carol L. (Frederick) Smith of Berlin Center, Ohio and A. Lucy (Ed) Root of Vienna, Ohio; two sons, W. John (Sophia) Mitchell, Jr. of Warren, Ohio and Dennis W. Mitchell of Brookfield, Ohio; two sisters, Barbara J. (Jim) Grueser of Murrysville, Pennsylvania and Bonita (Al) Peterson of Fowler, Ohio; a brother, Rev. Robert D. (Beverly) Mitchell of Fort Myers, Florida; eighteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. He lost five brother-in-laws who surviving wives are Joan Sweitzer, Dorothy Sweitzer, Bonnie Sweitzer, Kathy Dunbar and Linda Allen. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2013, at 11:00am at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 8569 Main Street, Kinsman, Ohio, with Rev. Eric Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow in Rock Ridge Cemetery in West Salem Twp., Pennsylvania. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, January 9th from 5:00pm until 7:00pm and on Thursday from 10:00am until the time of services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kinsman Volunteer Fire Department, the Kinsman Presbyterian Church or Southern Care Hospice.
