William D. Sevon, III, 84, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2017 at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester, MA after a short battle with throat cancer. He is survived by his wife Cecilia Sevon (Harrisburg, PA); son Douglass Sevon and his wife Mary (Grafton, MA); son David Sevon and his wife Lori (Springfield, MO); grandson William (Somerville, MA), granddaughter Anne (Fort Lauderdale, FL), grandsons Tyler, Tanner and Turner (Springfield, MO); and former wife Joan LaFleur (Orange City, FL). A longtime resident of Harrisburg, PA, he moved in the past year to Worcester, MA. He was born on July 22, 1933, the only child of the late William and Matilda Sevon, and raised in Andover, OH. With a PhD in Geology from the University of Illinois, he taught for several years at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand, before joining the Pennsylvania Geologic Survey in 1965 where he worked until retiring in 2001. He was a prolific and well known geologist with a long standing membership in the Harrisburg Area Geologic Society and as a Fellow in the Geologic Society of America. An avid bird watcher, he participated in the annual bird count for many years. He loved to sing and was a member of the Harrisburg Choral Society and Sylvan Choral Society. Calling hours will be held on May 5, 2018 at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 134 Prospect Street, Andover, Ohio from 10:00 to 11:00 AM.
