Richmond, Ohio - William B. Swagerty, Sr., age 74, entered into his heavenly home on Saturday, July 24, 2010, with his family by his side. He was born on September 30, 1935, in Newport, Tennessee, the son of Nellie A. (Whitehead) and John Swagerty. Mr. Swagerty served in the Army National Gaurd during the Berlin Crisis from 1954 until 1962. An employee of Ford Motor Company, Mr. Swagerty retired in 1991. On February 11, 1995, he married Annie Ruth Carter. He is a member of Miracle Temple Church of God in Christ of Ashtabula, Ohio, and enjoyed traveling. Preceding him in death are is parents; his step-mother, Pheba Swagerty; his step-father, Richard Scruggs and a step-brother, John Melvin Swagerty. Survivors include his wife of fifteen years, Annie Ruth Swagerty of Richmond, Ohio; two daughers, Gwendolyn Pollard of Texas and Chellye Leverston of Illinois; three sons, William B. Swagerty, Jr. and Melvin Swagerty both of Texas and Lamont Swagerty of Colorado; two step-daughters, Davida (Kevin) Moore of Ohio and Dedra Vassar of Texas; a step-son, Carl Carter of Ohio; two sisters, Lynette (David) Tempest of New Mexico and Jerolean Ellis of Michigan; one brother, Raymond (Joyce) Swagerty of Massachusetts; and thirteen grandchildren and many great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at 11:00am at the Hiawatha Church of God in Christ, 3417 Hiawatha Street, Ashtabula, Ohio. Calling hours will be held on Saturday from 10:00am until the time of services. Burial will follow in Richmond Cemetery, Richmond, Ohio.
