Yvonne Nila Thorn

d. June 17, 2012

Yvonne Nila Thorn, of Kinsman, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 17, 2012 at 7:55 PM with her loving family at her bedside at home. Yvonne was born on January 1, 1938, in Fellowsville, West Virginia. She was the daughter of Mrs. Maude (Bolyard) Kellar and Mr. Steven Kellar of Denver, West Virginia. At age five, Yvonne and her mother moved to Kinsman, Ohio, where she went to grade school, high school, was married, raised her family, and lived for the rest of her life. On June 2, 1957, Yvonne married Robert L. Thorn of Tunnelton, West Virginia. She and Robert just celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. Although Yvonne was a successful business woman, her most important priority was being a devoted wife to Bob, and a supportive mother to her three sons, Robert, Michael, and David. Yvonne was a lifelong member to the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church of Kinsman. At one point she attended the Kinsman United Methodist Church. She was active in the community by volunteering in various school, church, and civic organizations. All that knew Yvonne were inspired by her ambition, sense of humor and strength; and touched by her warmth, caringness, acceptance, and unconditional love. Yvonne was a career woman while juggling all the duties of managing a home and raising her children. She started her career in the field of cosmetology owning a salon in Kinsman. Due to severe allergies she was forced to change careers. She next sold Avon door to door, quickly being named as the regional manager. She utilized her strong people, social and managerial skills to later manage Housewares Outlet, The Country Clothes Closet, The Burghill Country Inn, and Antiques Boutique. In 2000 she retired as a manager of LCI. Yvonne is survived by her husband, Robert L. Thorn, who solely cared for her during her battle with pancreatic cancer; her three sons, Robert Joseph (Jackie) Thorn of Brownsville, PA, Michael Eric Thorn of Burghill, OH, and David Allen Thorn of Chagrin Falls,OH; six grandchildren, Michael Jr., Ryan, Ben, Jordan, Jillian, and Jeremy; one great grandson, Hunter; a great granddaughter yet to be born; and her sister, Nathalie Martin of Kinsman, OH. She was preceded in death by her parents; two nieces, Tracy Thorn and Phyllis Goff; two great nephews, Jason Martin and Scott Thorn; her brother, Vincent Wolfe; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Martin. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 20th from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 8569 Main St., Kinsman,OH. A funeral service will be on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, 6590 St. Rt. 87, Kinsman,OH, with Rev. Jon Martin, Yvonne' s nephew, officiating. Burial will follow in West View Cemetery in Vernon township,OH. A tribute luncheon in honor of Yvonne will be served in the church fellowship hall following the service.
